The dream of the SS United States emerged in steel and aluminum at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company's Shipway Number 10. From the laying of her keel on February 8, 1950, the ship has embodied technological and artistic achievement and has served as a soaring monument to the nation's can-do spirit.

Shipway Number 10 is a community of Conservancy members who support us throughout the year through monthly donations. This continuity and generosity is essential to our ongoing efforts to keep the SS United States safely floating, our curatorial collections growing, and our museum planning moving forward. As with the placement of the ship's keel in her original graving dock, our Shipway Number 10 supporters provide foundational support as we work to ensure that the SS United States endures for future generations.

*While tours of the SS United States are currently available to our most generous Captain's Quarters supporters who donate $1,000 or more to the Conservancy, we are pleased to now offer special opportunities to visit the ship in Philadelphia to some of our Shipway Number 10 members who sign up to donate automatically each month. At this point in time, we are reaching out to those monthly donors members who have been loyally supporting us for many years to offer special tour opportunities this spring and summer.
