As of March 2024, we are putting a temporary pause on accepting donations for our archival collections. We expect to resume collecting in Summer of 2024. Donations of rare and exceptional items and materials will still be considered during this time.

Since 2009, the Conservancy has gratefully received treasured donations of objects from across the country. Our archival and curatorial collections include art, advertisements, furniture, diaries, family photos and home videos, among many other objects. We are honored to have built an archive of visual materials related to passengers and crew who traveled in, helped build, and/or served aboard our nation’s flagship, the SS United States. Pausing donations will provide us time to process materials already donated, review our donation policies, and work on upcoming exhibits showcasing our collection.

You can play an important role in helping us preserve the history of the Big U! Were you a passenger, crew member, or have a family connection with the SS United States? Our oral history initiative remains open for you to share your stories! For more information, please email archives@ssusc.org.

If you are interested in donating materials when we open up again, you can start preparing right now! Please gather the following information to share with our archives team in Summer 2024.

  • Description of item(s) you wish to donate, date and circumstance of your ownership of the items, brief history of the items (previous owners, etc). archives@ssusc.org.
