Susan Gibbs, co-founder and executive director of the SS United States Conservancy and granddaughter of the ship’s renowned designer William Francis Gibbs, and Chad Floyd, FAIA, founding partner of Centerbrook Architects, will be speaking at Essex Meadows in Connecticut on Saturday April 8th, 2017.
Gibbs will share personal insights about the man behind the SS United States and the Herculean effort to preserve it. Chad will explore the ship’s design, showing how Gibbs’ vision helped spur a new mid-century aesthetic that married performance and glamour and continues to influence design today.
A reception with refreshments will accompany and give attendees the opportunity to converse with Gibbs and Floyd.
